Case study · Paper Review System

Peer review cycles, 40% faster.

Fukuro is an online paper review platform we designed, built, and operate. It carries a manuscript from submission through double-blind review to an organized rebuttal in one system, instead of a maze of email threads and PDFs.

Our work

The most rigorous process in academia, run over email

Peer review is how science protects its own quality, and in most venues it still runs on generic submission portals, email chains, and manually renamed PDF files. Manuscript intake was clunky, reviewer assignment was guesswork, and version confusion was routine.

The rebuttal phase was the worst of it. Authors answering multiple reviewers had no structured place to draft, coordinate, and submit responses. Deadlines were tracked by memory, co-authors collided in shared documents, and reviewers lost the thread between revision rounds.

Every hour organizers, reviewers, and authors spent fighting the process was an hour not spent on the actual scientific judgment the process exists for.

Case study · Paper Review System

One pipeline from submission to rebuttal

We built Fukuro as a single, clean pipeline for the whole review lifecycle: manuscript ingestion with automatic validation, intelligent reviewer matching against expertise, structured double-blind commenting, and a dedicated rebuttal workspace.

Double-blind isn't a policy in Fukuro, it's an architectural property. The platform separates identity from content structurally, so reviewers and authors can't leak identifying metadata by accident.

The rebuttal workspace is what changes daily life for authors: every reviewer comment becomes a trackable thread, co-authors draft responses collaboratively in one dashboard, and the finished rebuttal exports in the exact structure reviewers expect.

Manuscript ingestion & validation
Submissions arrive normalized and complete, no chasing missing files or malformed PDFs.
Intelligent reviewer matching
Manuscripts routed to reviewers by field and expertise instead of by whoever's inbox is nearest.
Structural double-blind
Identity and content separated at the platform level, not by convention.
Collaborative rebuttal dashboard
Comment-by-comment response drafting, shared between co-authors, with the full review history in view.
Result

Review time went back into reviewing

Review cycles complete 40% faster end to end. Authors manage rebuttal drafts in a collaborative dashboard instead of email threads, and organizers stopped playing traffic controller between reviewers and authors.

The overhead that used to surround the scientific judgment, formatting, forwarding, version control, is now the platform's job.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Fukuro is an online peer review platform that manages the full academic review lifecycle: manuscript submission and ingestion, reviewer matching, double-blind review comments, and a collaborative workspace for author rebuttals. Venues using it complete review cycles about 40% faster.

The platform separates author identity from manuscript content structurally, so neither side can accidentally expose the other through metadata or replies. Double-blind is enforced by the system, not left to participant discipline.

Every reviewer comment becomes a trackable thread. Co-authors draft responses together in one dashboard, see the full review history in context, and submit a rebuttal organized the way reviewers expect, no shared-document collisions or lost email threads.

Yes, it was built for venue-scale review: batch manuscript ingestion, reviewer pools, deadline tracking, and parallel review rounds across many submissions.
